LK Hjelle Launches Siesta Classic in Norwegian Leather
Norwegian furniture manufacturer LK Hjelle has launched a limited summer edition of Siesta Classic, upholstered in black and cognac Elmotique leather made exclusively from Norwegian hides. The campaign celebrates Norwegian furniture production and Scandinavian raw materials by pairing one of Norway’s most iconic furniture designs with leather from the same origin.
Designed by Ingmar Relling in 1965, Siesta has been a cornerstone of Norwegian design for generations. For this special edition, LK Hjelle wanted the material to share the same roots as the chair itself.
“We want to support Norwegian furniture manufacturing and showcase the excellent raw materials we have in Norway and Scandinavia,” says Hilde Renate Sydhagen, Head of Sales Europe at LK Hjelle. “We hope more consumers and manufacturers will choose them.”
The project was made possible through Elmo’s traceability system, which allows every hide to be traced back to its farm of origin and kept separated throughout production. This enables Elmo to guarantee Norwegian origin all the way from raw material to finished leather.
“Elmo is one of our preferred leather suppliers,” says Sydhagen. “The leather is of high and consistent quality, and as a Norwegian manufacturer, proximity to our suppliers is important to us.”
For Elmo, traceability is about more than documenting origin.
“Traceability is often discussed as a way of documenting origin, but for us it is really a way of documenting animal welfare,” says Jimmy Ahlgren, Head of Marketing at Elmo. “If we know where a hide comes from, we can also understand how the animal was raised. Traceability is what allows us to stand behind the material with confidence.”
